  • Influenza-like Illness:
    Within 1 week to local health department (Numerical totals only)
  • Influenza-associated pediatric mortality:
    (age <18 years): Within 1 week to local health department
  • Positive laboratory results for influenza:
    by type and subtype, as available (RT-PCR, immunoflourescence, or culture only) in aggregate weekly to IDE via fax (304)-558-8736
  • Outbreaks:
    Immediately to local health departments

Case Definition

  • Influenza-like illness is defined as fever ≥100°F(38°C) and cough or sore throat without another identified cause.
